How Talko collects, uses and protects your information. Last updated 2 September 2026.
Talko is operated by [Talko legal entity — e.g. Nick Taylor trading as Talko / Talko Ltd, company number], [registered address], United Kingdom (“Talko”, “we”). We are the data controller for the personal data described here. Contact: help@talko.chat. [ICO registration number].
Account: email address, sign-in method (email, Google or Apple), display name, optional bio, profile identity and tags, profile photo.
Verification: our verification partner Stripe checks your identity document and a selfie. Talko never receives or stores your document. We store the outcome (verified or not), a reference number, whether you are 18 or over, and your date of birth — the date of birth is kept in a restricted store used only to show your age on your Host profile and to enforce Host age preferences; it is never shown to other members.
Calls: who called whom, the topic, when the call connected and ended, connected time, Host mute periods, and what was charged. Talko does not record or listen to call audio. Audio is carried by our voice partner LiveKit and is not stored.
Payments: top-ups, call charges, refunds, earnings and withdrawals are recorded in your Talko wallet ledger. Card and bank details are collected and held by Stripe, not Talko. We store Stripe customer and account references.
Safety: reports you make, blocks you set, ratings you give and receive, support tickets and messages.
Device: a push-notification token for incoming-call alerts, and standard technical logs (IP address, app version, error reports) from our hosting provider.
To run the service (matching, calls, billing, payouts); to verify that members are real adults; to keep the community safe (moderation of photos and reports, blocking, fraud prevention); to answer support; and to meet legal obligations. Profile photos are screened by an automated service (Sightengine) for nudity and to confirm a face is visible, and may be reviewed by Talko staff.
Performance of our contract with you (running calls and payments); legal obligation (accounting, age-assurance, fraud); legitimate interests (safety, security, service improvement); and consent where we ask for it (push notifications, camera and photo access).
Stripe (payments, payouts, identity verification), LiveKit (voice), Supabase (database and hosting), Sightengine (photo screening), Resend (support and alert email), Expo/Apple/Google (push notifications and app distribution). Each processes data under contract with us. Some providers store data outside the UK; where they do, we rely on the UK Addendum to the EU Standard Contractual Clauses or UK adequacy regulations. We do not sell personal data or use it for advertising.
Your display name, photo, age, profile identity, tags, bio, rate, topic and rating. If Anonymous Mode is on, Hosts see “Private Caller” instead of your name and photo. Other members never see your email, phone number, document, payment details or address.
Account data: until you delete your account. Verification outcome and date of birth: while your account exists, then deleted. Wallet ledger and call records: 6 years after the transaction for accounting and dispute obligations, anonymised on account deletion. Safety reports: 2 years, anonymised on deletion. Support tickets: deleted with the account. Technical logs: up to 90 days.
You can access, correct, export or delete your data, object to or restrict processing, and complain to the Information Commissioner’s Office (ico.org.uk). Most of this you can do in the app; for anything else email help@talko.chat.
Talko is for adults aged 18 and over only. We verify age before allowing calls or Hosting and remove accounts found to belong to under-18s.
We will post changes here and, for significant changes, tell you in the app.
